The Gordons released their iconic Future Shock as a 12” EP on Flying Nun Records in August 1988 (catalog number FN093), following its original self-released 7” run in December 1980.
History and Significance
Origins: Formed in Christchurch in 1980, the noise-rock trio—consisting of Alister Parker, John Halvorsen, and Brent McLachlan—self-released Future Shock on their own Gordonoid, Inc. label.
Flying Nun Connection: The original pressing proved to label founder Roger Shepherd that an independent South Island music scene could successfully document and distribute itself.
The 1988 12" Reissue: Flying Nun officially re-released the EP on a 12-inch 45 RPM format in August 1988 to coincide with the emergence of Parker's subsequent band, Bailter Space.
